Another one I enjoyed, Amber: Journeys Beyond, I found out from my local game store was made by a wife/husband team. I have a general affection for Myst alikes, there were a ton of bland ones but it was the sort of easier to develop game you could pull off with a pretty small team of devs. It's pretty campy stuff but has its charms. It was an easy Trojan horse for cd drives.ħth Guest also looked pretty cool but was a lot more uneven. I remember seeing a looping demo outside a game store when it first released, and it was an immediate 'that looks incredible I have to play it' type of thing. Also the whole 'stranger in a strange land' atmosphere and mystique behind the world building was done well, especially with Riven. PC gaming up to that point didn't really have anything else like that with those kinds of environments. Myst alone helped push a ton of CD-ROM drives, it was a very visually impressive title for the time despite the pre-rendered backgrounds.
